Da Hong Pao, meaning Big Red Robe, is one of China's most celebrated oolong teas. A traditional Yancha (rock tea) from the famous Wuyi Mountains, it is renowned for its remarkable depth, complexity and rich roasted character.
According to legend, this extraordinary tea cured the mother of a Ming Dynasty emperor. In gratitude, the emperor sent magnificent red robes to protect the original tea bushes, giving the tea its iconic name.
Our Da Hong Pao is handcrafted by the Zhou family Tea Masters using traditional methods. Medium roasted to bring out its distinctive character, it offers a beautifully smooth cup with ripe blackcurrant notes, gentle fruit sweetness and a lingering roasted finish. For the fullest expression of its flavour, we recommend brewing it using the Gong Fu method.
