This darker style Oolong tea is sourced from Taiwan and offers deep raisin and ripe fruit aromas, with a smooth, distinctive flavour. Traditionally known as Formosa Oolong, it is a characterful loose leaf tea that can be enjoyed throughout the day.
Oolong is a traditional style of tea made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant – the same plant used to produce black, green and white teas. What makes Oolong distinctive is the way the leaves are processed and partially oxidised, producing flavours that sit somewhere between the freshness of green tea and the richer character of black tea.
Oolong tea originated in China, where it has been produced for centuries, and later became an important part of Taiwan's tea tradition. Taiwan was historically known as Formosa, which is why Taiwanese Oolong teas are still sometimes referred to as Formosa Oolong.
The degree of oxidation can vary considerably between different Oolong teas, resulting in an exceptionally broad range of flavours and aromas. Lighter Oolongs can be fresh, floral and delicate, while darker styles such as this Taiwanese Oolong develop deeper, fruitier and more rounded characteristics.
For the best results, brew with freshly boiled water that has been allowed to cool slightly, and adjust the brewing time to suit your preferred strength.
